Almost quitting time. If you’ve ever watched one of these construction crews work for any length of time, you know they go like a clock. This crew installed what looked like a water main. They had the big machines hoisting pieces of it into place. The trench on Beard Street was deep enough for a man to disappear into. When the excavators moved out and that shadow slowly crept up to the trench, they went into fixit mode, finally dragging metal plates across the expanse. They swept up and pushed cones aside. Traffic could resume for rush hour. The view from #ikea my #nycurbansketchers pal Julie and I sat all toasty in the restaurant and sketched. #gouache
