It is pouring and chilly. On a day like this, twenty-seven years ago, I waited for the Lighting Designer to make his appearance, Now I’m here in the studio with nothing to paint until I look over to the window at my companion light, one of the Lighting Designer’s inventions glimmering away, changing colors, keeping me company. I remember the old edict “just paint what’s in front of you”, so I do. I used gouache on one of those Strathmore Toned Mixed Media sample sheets, 4” x 6”. I illustrated the rain on the window with a Gelly Roll pen. This will make a nice birthday present for a boy who can conceive of and supply his own birthday presents and does. A watch? Mama could not have guessed.
